The main US stock indexes closed mixed yesterday. The S&P 500 fell 0.2%, the Nasdaq dropped 0.8%, while the Dow Jones rose 0.5%. Year-to-date, the indexes have gained 12.8%, 13.4%, and 13.1%, respectively.
As for bond yields, the US Treasury yield curve showed mixed performance yesterday. The 1-year Treasury note moved from 3.99% to 4.01%, while the 3-year Treasury yield remained virtually unchanged at 4.24%. Finally, the 10-year yield also remained virtually unchanged at 4.61%.
SanDisk (SNDK) and Western Digital (WDC) reported their earnings yesterday. SanDisk reported earnings per share (EPS) of $39.25, exceeding analysts' estimates of $34.59, with revenue of $8.97 billion compared to the $8.42 billion forecast. Western Digital, meanwhile, reported EPS of $3.56, surpassing the consensus analyst estimate of $3.29, with revenue of $3.75 billion versus an expectation of $3.69 billion. Both companies exceeded estimates for both earnings and revenue.
Regarding economic indicators, the S&P Global Services Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) for July was released yesterday, coming in at 54.6 points, above the 53.6 points expected by analysts. The ISM's July PMI reached 54.1 points, slightly below the consensus analyst estimate of 54.5 points. This index, above 50 points, indicates an expansion of activity, while below that level it reflects a contraction.
