In the United States, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August stood at +3.4% year-over-year, in line with the +3.4% expected by the analyst consensus and unchanged from July's +3.4%. On a monthly basis, the CPI rose +0.4%, in line with projections and above the previous +0.1%. Meanwhile, Core CPI—which excludes food and energy—stood at +2.4% year-over-year, in line with consensus and below July's +2.5%, while the monthly figure climbed +0.3%, exceeding both the expected +0.2% and the previous +0.2%.
Major US stock indices closed lower yesterday. The S&P 500 fell 0.6%, the Nasdaq dropped 0.7%, and the Dow Jones lost 0.6%. Consequently, year-to-date gains for these indices stand at +10.9%, +12.2%, and +8.3%, respectively.
Regarding bond yields, the US Treasury curve shifted upward during yesterday's trading session. The 1-year bond yield rose to 4.27% from 4.15%, the 3-year bond advanced to 4.67% from 4.52%, and the 10-year bond climbed to 4.95% from 4.84%.
Finally, regarding commodities, gold fell 1.7% to USD 4,322.1 per ounce. Among energy commodities, WTI crude rose 6.9% to USD 102.7 per barrel, and Brent crude climbed 6.7% to USD 108.0 per barrel. For its part, soybean prices rose 1.6% to USD 483.5 per tonne.
