In the US, May inflation rose to +4.2% year-on-year, the highest figure since April 2023

In the United States, May inflation was in line with analysts' consensus expectations in most cases. Specifically, it registered a monthly increase of 0.5%, slightly lower than the previous month's figure, and a year-on-year increase of 4.2%, the highest performance in the last two years. Meanwhile, the measure excluding food and energy (core inflation) rose 0.2% monthly versus the expected 0.3%, and 2.9% year-on-year.

In terms of equities, the main US stock indices traded mixed yesterday. The Dow Jones advanced 0.2%, while the Nasdaq fell 1.0% and the S&P 500 declined 0.3%. With these performances, year-to-date gains are 5.8%, 10.5%, and 7.9%, respectively.

Meanwhile, US Treasury yields also showed mixed movements on Tuesday. The 1-year bond closed at 3.82%, up from 3.80% the previous day, while the 3-year bond settled at 4.17%, down from 4.22% on Monday. Similarly, the 10-year bond yield fell to 4.52% from 4.57%.
