Unemployment in the United States fell to 4.1% in July, although job creation contracted

This morning, the US jobs report for July was released. Job creation fell by 23,000, below the 85,000 jobs added by analysts. The figure for the previous month was also revised downward to 20,000 jobs. Meanwhile, the unemployment rate stood at 4.1%, slightly below the 4.2% forecast by analysts and the 4.2% recorded in the previous month.

Major US stock indexes traded lower yesterday. The S&P 500 fell 0.2%, the Nasdaq declined 0.1%, and the Dow Jones dropped 0.9%. Year-to-date, the indexes have risen 12.6%, 13.4%, and 12.1%, respectively.

Regarding bond yields, the US Treasury yield curve moved upward yesterday. The 1-year Treasury note rose from 4.01% to 4.05%, while the 3-year note increased from 4.24% to 4.30%. Finally, the 10-year note saw a change from 4.61% to 4.67%.

In commodities, gold traded down 0.1% yesterday at USD 4,244.2 per ounce. Soybeans, meanwhile, rose 0.5% to USD 425.2 per ton. In the energy market, WTI crude oil climbed 3.3% to USD 77.7 per barrel, while Brent crude rose 4.4% to USD 83.0 per barrel.
