Yields on US Treasury bonds rose yesterday

The main US stock indexes closed in negative territory yesterday. The S&P 500 fell 0.3% (up 12.3% year-to-date); the Nasdaq declined 0.1% (up 13.5% year-to-date); while the Dow Jones posted the biggest drop, falling 0.7% (up 10.7% year-to-date).

Regarding bond yields, the 1-year Treasury yield remained virtually unchanged at 4.13%. The 3-year yield moved from 4.40% to 4.41%, while the 10-year yield rose from 4.72% to 4.75%.

Finally, in commodities, gold fell 0.1% to $4,449.1 per ounce, while soybeans declined 0.1% to $468.6 per ton. Meanwhile, WTI crude advanced 3.5% to $86.3 per barrel, and Brent crude rose 1.6% to $90.7 per barrel.

Regarding economic indicators, the preliminary Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Eurozone in August was released this morning, showing a year-on-year increase of 3.3%, in line with analysts' consensus (3.3%) and above the previous figure of 2.9%. Similarly, the Eurozone unemployment rate for July was 6.4%, above the 6.3% expected by analysts and the same as the previous figure. Brazil's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the second quarter grew 2.0% year-on-year, exceeding both the 1.8% estimated by analysts and the previous figure of 1.8%. In quarter-on-quarter terms, it advanced +0.5%, above the expected +0.4% and below the previous +1.1%.
