In the United States, consumer confidence fell slightly in March

In the United States, the University of Michigan’s March Consumer Sentiment Survey was released on Friday, coming in at 53.3 points—slightly below the 54 points projected by the consensus of analysts and down from the 55.5 points recorded in February.

Major U.S. stock indices fell on Friday. The S&P 500 index fell by -1.7%, while the Nasdaq dropped -2.1%, and the Dow Jones also fell by -1.7%. Thus, year-to-date, the indices have declined by -7.0%, -9.9%, and -6.0%, respectively.

The focus this week will be on potential developments regarding the conflict between Iran and the U.S.-Israel alliance. This morning, Donald Trump warned Iran that they could destroy energy assets if the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened soon. He also stated that they are in serious discussions with Iran to end the military operation. In terms of economic news, the focus will be primarily on the March employment data to be released on Friday. Unemployment is expected to stand at 4.4%, with 60,000 jobs created during that period.

Finally, the U.S. Treasury yield curve steepened on Friday. The 1-year bond yield narrowed from 3.81% to 3.74%, while the 3-year bond yield narrowed from 3.99% to 3.93%. Meanwhile, the 10-year yield widened from 4.41% to 4.43%.
