US stock indexes closed with widespread gains on Friday

The main US stock indexes advanced on Friday. The S&P 500 rose 0.6%, the Nasdaq gained 1.3%, and the Dow Jones climbed 0.3%. Year-to-date, the indexes have accumulated gains of 13.3%, 14.8%, and 12.4%, respectively.

Looking ahead to this week, the most important data point will be the release of the Consumer Price Index (CPI), for which analysts project a monthly increase of 0.1% and a year-over-year increase of 3.4%. The core CPI, which excludes food and energy, is expected to rise 0.2% monthly and 2.5% year-over-year. The Producer Price Index (PPI) will also be released, with a projected increase of 0.2% month-on-month and 4.9% year-on-year, while its core inflation index is expected to rise 0.3% month-on-month and 4.1% year-on-year.

Regarding bond yields, Friday saw declines across the main maturities of the US Treasury yield curve. The 1-year Treasury note fell from 4.04% to 3.99%, while the 3-year note dropped from 4.30% to 4.26%. The 10-year note saw a decrease from 4.68% to 4.64%.

Finally, regarding commodities, gold rose 2.3% to USD 4,338.2 per ounce, while soybeans fell 0.1% to USD 424.9 per ton. As for energy, WTI crude declined 0.3% to USD 77.0 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped 0.4% to USD 82.2 per barrel.
