Major US stock indexes closed with widespread declines on Friday

International

The main US stock indexes ended the last trading day of the week in negative territory. The S&P 500 fell 0.4%, while the Nasdaq declined 0.3%, and the Dow Jones registered the steepest drop at 0.5%. However, all three indexes are still up significantly year-to-date, with cumulative gains of 12.8%, 14.0%, and 11.1%, respectively. It's worth noting that today is Labor Day in the United States, so there will be no trading in US markets today.

Regarding US Treasury yields, increases were observed across the entire curve following the release of the surprisingly positive August jobs report. The 1-year bond yield moved from 4.10% to 4.11%, while the 3-year bond yield rose from 4.41% to 4.45%. The 10-year bond yield settled at 4.78%, compared to 4.77% the previous day.

Finally, in commodities, gold fell 0.9% to USD 4,430.5 per ounce, while soybeans declined 1.0% to USD 475.3 per ton. In the energy sector, WTI crude remained unchanged at USD 91.3 per barrel, while Brent crude rose 0.5% to USD 96.0 per barrel.
