Over the weekend, the United States suspended its two-week-long bombing campaign against Iran after top military officials deemed the offensive's objectives exhausted. Iran, for its part, stated on Monday that it maintains control of the Strait of Hormuz and is not seeking to resume peace talks with the United States, although it indicated it would pause its own attacks as long as the US ceasefire holds. Against this backdrop, Brent crude oil fell approximately 12% this morning.
Major US stock indexes closed Friday with mixed results. The S&P 500 remained virtually unchanged, while the Nasdaq fell 0.6% and the Dow Jones rose 0.5%. Year to date, the three indexes have accumulated gains of 8.3%, 7.5%, and 8.1%, respectively.
Regarding US Treasury yields, rates closed slightly lower across the curve on Friday. The 1-year Treasury note fell from 4.12% to 4.11%, while the 3-year note declined from 4.39% to 4.37%. The 10-year note moved from 4.69% to 4.68%.
Finally, in commodities, gold rose 0.1% to close at USD 4,052.5 per ounce. Soybeans advanced 0.7% to USD 458.1 per ton. As for energy, WTI crude fell 2.3% to USD 90.1 per barrel, while Brent crude dropped 2.8% to close at USD 97.9 per barrel.
