The week opened positively for US stock indices, awaiting developments between the US and Iran

International

The main US stock indexes closed the day with widespread gains, driven especially by the technology sector. The S&P 500 advanced 1.2% and has accumulated an 8.7% gain so far this year. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, was the best performer with a daily increase of 2.1% and an 11.1% year-to-date gain, while the Dow Jones registered a more moderate increase of 0.6%, bringing its year-to-date change to 8.6%.

Regarding bond yields, US Treasury rates showed increases across the entire curve. The 1-year bond moved from 3.91% to 3.95%, while the 3-year bond rose from 4.09% to 4.11%. The 10-year yield, meanwhile, remained virtually unchanged at 4.37%.

All eyes will be on Doha, Qatar, where President Trump announced a meeting between US and Iranian representatives as part of the follow-up to the memorandum of understanding reached to end the conflict. However, Iranian officials have cast doubt on whether the meeting is actually confirmed, so the market will be closely monitoring any developments.

Finally, last night Japan's unemployment rate for May was released, coming in at 2.5%, in line with analysts' projections and unchanged from the previous day. Meanwhile, this morning the UK published its first-quarter GDP figures: +0.6% quarter-on-quarter, in line with expectations, and +0.9% year-on-year, below the 1.1% projected by analysts.
