Today the Federal Reserve will announce its decision regarding the benchmark interest rate, which is expected to remain unchanged.

The Federal Reserve (Fed) will announce its monetary policy decision today at 2:00 PM ET, with expectations that it will keep the benchmark interest rate unchanged in the 3.50%-3.75% range. Market attention will be focused on the changes to forward guidance, given that the new chairman, Kevin Warsh, has expressed his preference for an approach strictly dependent on current macroeconomic data, avoiding anticipating future movements. A reduction in his public appearances is also anticipated, which could translate into less frequent press conferences.
Against this backdrop, the main US stock indices moved mixed yesterday. The S&P 500 fell 0.6% during trading, while the Nasdaq declined 1.2%. The Dow Jones, however, was the exception, rising 0.6% yesterday. Thus, the indices have accumulated year-to-date gains of 9.7%, 13.5%, and 8.2%, respectively.
The U.S. Treasury yield curve remained relatively unchanged yesterday. The 1-year Treasury note moved from 3.84% to 3.83%, while the 3-year Treasury note settled at 4.09%, slightly below Monday's 4.11%. Meanwhile, the 10-year Treasury note saw its yield compress from 4.47% to 4.44%.
