US stock indexes closed mixed, while Treasury yields remained mostly stable

The main US stock indexes closed with mixed results yesterday. The S&P 500 advanced 0.3%, and the Nasdaq gained 0.5%, while the Dow Jones remained virtually unchanged. Year-to-date, the indexes have accumulated gains of 13.2%, 14.4%, and 11.9%, respectively.
Regarding bond yields, the US Treasury yield curve saw limited movement yesterday. The 1-year Treasury note fell from 4.01% to 3.99%, while the 3-year Treasury note fell from 4.28% to 4.27%. Finally, the 10-year Treasury yield remained virtually unchanged at 4.69%.
Commodity markets also saw mixed movements. Oil prices retreated, with WTI falling 0.3% to $82.9 per barrel and Brent losing 0.3% to $88.6. Gold, on the other hand, advanced 0.9% to close at $4,409.3 per ounce, while soybeans rose 1.5% to $427.9 per ton.
Finally, a series of key global economic indicators were released this morning. In the United Kingdom, preliminary second-quarter GDP grew 1.2% year-on-year, exceeding analysts' estimates of 1.1%, while quarter-on-quarter GDP increased 0.4%, in line with analysts' consensus. In the Eurozone, June industrial production showed no monthly change, compared to analysts' forecast of a 0.1% contraction, and year-on-year production rose 0.1%, surpassing the estimated 0.8% decline. Meanwhile, in Brazil, June retail sales grew +2.9% year-on-year, above the +2.4% expected by analysts, and +0.5% month-on-month, also above the +0.3% forecast.
