US stock indexes closed slightly lower, while oil prices rebounded yesterday

The main US stock indexes closed slightly lower yesterday. The S&P 500 fell 0.1%, the Nasdaq declined 0.3%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 0.1%. Year-to-date, the indexes have gained 13.3%, 14.5%, and 12.3%, respectively.

As for bond yields, the US Treasury yield curve shifted upward yesterday. The 1-year Treasury yield rose from 3.99% to 4.03%, while the 3-year yield climbed from 4.26% to 4.31%. Finally, the 10-year yield increased from 4.65% to 4.70%.

Finally, regarding commodities, gold advanced 1.1% to USD 4,390.3 per ounce. Soybeans rose 0.1% to USD 425.4 per ton. Meanwhile, WTI crude climbed 5.3% to USD 82.3 per barrel, while Brent crude advanced 5.2% to USD 87.9 per barrel, on a day marked by an escalation of the geopolitical situation in the Middle East after the US president demanded that Iran pay compensation for damages related to the conflict between the two countries, within the framework of negotiations for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

On the economic front, Mexico released its industrial production figures for June, which showed a year-on-year expansion of 1.7%. On a monthly basis, the indicator advanced 0.2%, below the 0.3% forecast by analysts. On the Brazilian side, the Broad Consumer Price Index (IPCA) for July stood at +4.4% year-on-year, in line with analysts' expectations and below the previous +4.6%, while in the monthly comparison the index advanced +0.1%, above the practically zero variation expected by analysts, although slowing down compared to the +0.2% recorded in June.
