Anticipation for the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting this week

This week's focus in the United States will be on the Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy meeting, Kevin Warsh's first as chairman. The benchmark interest rate is projected to remain unchanged in the current 3.5%-3.75% range. The quarterly update on macroeconomic prospects and the interest rate path will also be presented. Meanwhile, benchmark interest rate decisions are expected in the United Kingdom, Chile, Brazil, and Japan, whose current rates are 3.75%, 4.5%, 0.75%, and 14.5%, respectively.

Regarding fixed income, the US Treasury yield curve broadened slightly on Friday, although it closed the week lower across most maturities. While the 1-year bond yield remained unchanged at 3.84%, the 3-year bond yield settled at 4.14%, compared to 4.20% the previous week. Meanwhile, the 10-year bond yield fell to 4.48% from 4.53%.

For their part, the main US stock indices maintained their upward trend on Friday, ending the week with widespread gains. The Nasdaq and Dow Jones each posted a weekly increase of 0.7%, followed by the S&P 500 with a 0.6% gain. With these performances, the indices have accumulated year-to-date gains of 11.4%, 6.5%, and 8.6%, respectively.
