Inflation in the United States in April was +3.8% year-on-year

This morning, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for April was released in the United States. The measurement showed that prices rose 0.6% for the month and 3.8% year-over-year. Meanwhile, the core CPI, which excludes food and energy, came in at 0.4% month-over-month and 2.8% year-over-year. In all cases, the figures were slightly above the consensus estimate of analysts.

The main stock indexes closed slightly higher at the start of the week. The S&P 500 rose 0.2%, as did the Dow Jones, while the Nasdaq advanced 0.1%. Thus, year-to-date, the indexes have accumulated gains of 8.3%, 3.4%, and 13.0%, respectively.

Meanwhile, yields on U.S. Treasury bonds widened yesterday. The 1-year bond closed with a yield of 3.76%, up from 3.73% on Friday, while the 3-year bond closed at 3.98%, also exceeding the previous week's close of 3.91%. The 10-year bond, meanwhile, rose from 4.35% to 4.41%.
