US Treasury yields retreated yesterday, and the 10-year rate closed at 4.94%

US Treasury yields fell across the board yesterday. The 1-year bond yield moved from 4.41% to 4.36%. The 3-year yield dropped to 4.75% from the previous 4.83%, while the 10-year bond yield fell to 4.94% from 5.02% in the previous session.

Meanwhile, major US stock indices closed higher yesterday. The S&P 500 rose 1.1%, bringing its year-to-date gain to 11.6%. The Nasdaq posted the largest daily gain at 1.7%, with a year-to-date increase of 13.7%. The Dow Jones advanced 0.6% and maintains a 7.7% gain since the start of the year.

The Bank of Japan (BoJ) decided last night to raise its monetary policy rate by 25 basis points, in line with the analyst consensus. Earlier, Japan's Consumer Price Index (CPI) for August was released. The core index, which excludes fresh food, showed a year-over-year change of +1.7%, below the +1.8% estimated by analysts and the +1.8% recorded the previous month. The headline index stood at +1.9% year-over-year, in line with expectations.

Finally, regarding commodities, gold rose 1.9% to USD 4,343.1 per ounce. Soybean prices remained virtually unchanged at USD 484.8 per tonne. In the energy sector, WTI crude fell 1.2% to $101.2 per barrel, while Brent dropped 1.7% to $104.1 per barrel.
