This morning, U.S. retail sales figures for August were released, showing a +1.2% monthly increase that exceeded the +0.8% expected by analysts, reversing July’s -0.5% decline. The core figure, which excludes the automotive sector, climbed +1.4% month-over-month—also above the +0.6% projected by analysts—following a -0.2% decline the previous month.
The U.S. Treasury yield curve shifted upward during yesterday’s trading session. The 10-year bond yield rose to 5.00% from 4.99% previously, the 3-year bond yield rose to 4.77% from 4.76%, and the 1-year bond yield moved from 4.35% to 4.36%.
Meanwhile, the major U.S. stock indices closed yesterday’s session in negative territory. The S&P 500 fell -0.4%, the Nasdaq dropped -0.8%, and the Dow Jones declined -0.6%. Thus, year-to-date, the indices have posted gains of +10.8%, +11.8%, and +8.4%, respectively.
Finally, regarding commodities, gold fell by 0.1% to $4,296.7 per ounce, while soybeans rose by 2.6% to $484.7 per metric ton. Among energy commodities, WTI rose +4.6% to USD 106.0 per barrel, and Brent rose +2.9% to USD 108.8 per barrel.
