Major US stock indices rose yesterday, with the Nasdaq gaining 1.5%

Major U.S. stock indices closed with broad-based gains yesterday, led by the Nasdaq. The technology index rose 2.3%, bringing its year-to-date gain to 16.7%. The S&P 500 climbed 1.5%, with a cumulative gain of 13.4% for the year. Meanwhile, the Dow Jones posted a more modest rise of 0.7%, bringing its year-to-date gain to 8.3%.

On the geopolitical front, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed openness to meeting with his Iranian counterpart, Masoud Pezeshkian, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly. Meanwhile, Iran reportedly communicated its conditions for resuming negotiations.

Regarding U.S. Treasury yields, the day saw declines in the medium- and long-term segments of the curve. The 10-year bond yield fell to 4.95% from the previous 5.00%. The 3-year bond yield moved from 4.83% to 4.82%. Meanwhile, the 1-year bond yield remained virtually unchanged at 4.40%.

Finally, in the commodities market, oil prices saw the day's steepest declines. WTI crude fell 4.9% to $95.4 per barrel, and Brent crude dropped 3.6% to $100.1 per barrel. Gold also fell 0.9% to $4,340.8 per ounce. In contrast, soybeans rose 1.8% to $487.5 per tonne.
